A computer virus can be developed maliciously by anyone who wants to cause harm to computers or systems. They are coded bits that connect to other programs or applications, and, when activated, spread like wildfire. Typically, viruses are found in a document or program downloaded via the internet or transmitted via email. Most countries believe that spreading and creating a computer virus is illegal.

The first computer virus was created in 1974, and it performed like a biological one by rapidly multiplying itself and causing harm to the system.
